Classics 4 Kids needs you for our Advisory Council!

What is the purpose of our Advisory Council?

Our Advisory Council is a volunteer group of community members formed to give advice and support to Classics 4 Kids’ staff. The is a no liability governance role that consists of individuals from community activists to music lovers.

What is our Mission?

Inspiring children through the experience of music, generating creativity, academic success and cultural understanding.

Who are we?

Classics 4 Kids provides critical music education through professional orchestra concerts, in-school workshops, online programs and community events designed for elementary students. Our culturally diverse programming involves local guest artists, dance, visual arts and the cross-curricular material includes STEAM, literature and cultural exploration, in conjunction with the music. We have a particular outreach to low-income schools.

During our last season, Classics 4 Kids served almost 17,000 students, teachers, and families – through Orchestra programs, in-school music workshops, NEW online programs and through our “Heartstrings” program at Rady Children’s Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House. Of those students served 75% of those qualified as attending Title 1, low-income schools and thus received full or partially subsidized participation. The population in need of support is expanding and we seek support from the community to continue our outreach to disadvantaged schools. Online programming is currently being offered in response to COVID-19 restrictions.

What can Advisory Council members expect?

  • Volunteering your time to support the organization in a variety of ways (with as much time obligation as desired). We will share our needs via email and at the meetings.
  • Provide a donation (financial or in-kind) of $25 (C4K encouraged but not required)
  • Attend Advisory Council meetings twice a year with executive staff (first meeting to be held in March, date TBD)

If interested please respond via email to Kiran Shelat, Executive Director (kshelat@classics4kids.org) or Elyse Nguyen, Board Member (elysetn@gmail.com) by February 15, 2021.

We look forward to meeting you!
